Keep On Losing, America Shot this over two weeks with my friend Juan Gastelum for a digital media class while at Columbia's J-School. The Wall Street Journal ran a version in their Greater New York Section called Odd Jobs. Every weekday, Khadija Garrett commutes from her home in Red Hook, Brooklyn, to the lower levels of Grand Central Terminal, where she works to reunite people with the items they’ve lost and left behind on the trains. More than 2,000 items pass through the train station’s lost-and-found department every month. According to Garrett, she and her staff manage to return between 60% and 80% of the goods, which range from cellphones and wallets to dentures and, once, a canoe.

Sweet Epiphanies An Epiphany is explained as the sudden realization or comprehension of meaning, usually of divine nature. Religious Epiphanies often refers to miraculous incarnations while the secular usage of the word owes its popularity to James Joyce, referring to those times in his life when something became crystal clear - an epiphany as the undoing of the illusionary world, as a moment of self discovery. The Sweet Epiphanies series, a sequence of 18 original paper cut-out's accompanied by text, follows Joseph Campbell's description of the path of the hero - a structure of 18 universal steps of evolution and transformation from the mundane and into a heroic sphere, which he named as "Monomyth". The sweet epiphany series is a path, made out of moments of epiphany threaded together. Each reflects on the journey of life, asking to highlight human powers which often tend in everyday life, to be concealed. Sweet Epiphanies, as a Sweet Way of Remembering.
